The BSA motorcycle started life as a vision to overcome the roller-coaster work demands of making weapons, which is good through turbulent times but not so much of a demand when in peacetime. The group decided to look for other products. Looking at the equipment available in the factory at Small Heath the Otto Dicycle (shown below) commenced manufacture in 1880. Seeing how impractical it was compared to the newly designed "Safety Bicycle" BSA started to make there own version of the style that still exists today.
Around 1905 BSA started to put together motorised bicycles as it was considered the way to go. Around 1910 BSA had the first in-house built roll off the production line. This was a 3 1/2 Hp single cylinder model. Over the years BSA grew larger offering more customer choices and by the 1950's had the biggest, most complete range of motorcycles of any manufacturer in the world.

The 2012 BSA National Rally will be held in Queensland and You need to start planning things now to be a part of the great Annual Event.
It truelly is one of the Motorcyclists favorite times, young and Old, when you see the 100 year old machinery and 60+ year old machinery
run down the highway in big numbers. Each year the competition between States makes the program become stronger and greater. The 2012 event is looking to keep that tradition going.
